While not specifically named in the near eastside QOL plan, the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee believes an investment in the Arsenal Tech High School Campus will not only benefit the student-athletes from IPS, but also serve a greater purpose in supporting the goals of other Legacy initiatives. While this facility will serve for a brief time as the practice facility for the NFC Conference Champion for the 2012 Super Bowl, it will be developed with the flexibility for use and conversion into a NFL Youth Education Town (YET) Center. The NFL leaves a legacy to youth and education in a host community by supporting the development of a YET Center in an economically disadvantaged area. Since the Near Eastside doesn’t have any large youth serving recreational, sports and youth development facilities, it will provide the opportunity for a wide variety of activities including health, fitness, wellness, cultural, educational, and family strengthening programs that will benefit youth and families from the entire Near Eastside neighborhood for years to come.
A NFC Practice Facility/YET Center/Community Recreation Center committee has been developed with a goal of managing the design and construction of the Super Bowl NFC practice facility on the campus of Arsenal Technical High School. This group also has a goal of facilitating a unique arrangement that divides post-Super Bowl use of the facility between an Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis Public Schools and community youth serving agencies that serve the neighborhoods of the Near Eastside. NFC Practice Facility/Community Recreation Facility committee co-chairs include:
- Susan Williams – President, Indiana Sports Corporation; former Executive Director of Indiana State Office Building Commission
- Joe Matthews – Executive Director, Jobs Partnership of Greater Indianapolis; founding President & CEO, Indiana OIC Council
