We're on a fast track
After the Colts became world champions in 2007, city leaders began planning another title for Indianapolis - Super Bowl City. After a great run at the 2011 Super Bowl that narrowly fell short, there was immediate speculation about a 2012 bid.
In late January of this year, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard asked Eli Lilly & Company President John Lechleiter and Central Indiana Corporate Partnership President Mark Miles to study the 2012 opportunity, looking at issues including changes to NFL specifications, a cost/benefit analysis for the City and financial support from the corporate community.
On February 19, the group announced that Indianapolis will move forward with the 2012 bid, building on the solid foundation of the 2011 effort. Our team is working to assemble the new bid, including fresh innovations and enhancements based on the community's input.
We will submit an initial bid on April 1st, with the final submission on May 9th and the league owners' decision coming after a face-to-face briefing later that month. Key dates for the process include:
| November 2007 | NFL Bid Specification issued |
| February 1 - 4 | 2008 Super Bowl Site Survey |
| February 19 | Public Announcement of Bid |
| February 20 - 26 | NFL Combine in Indianapolis |

| April 1 | Submission of Preliminary Bid Documents to NFL |
| April | NFL Preliminary Review of Bid Documents |
| May 9 | Final Bid Submission to NFL Owners |
