While not specifically named in the near eastside QOL plan, the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee believes an investment in the Arsenal Tech High School Campus will not only benefit the student-athletes from IPS, but also serve a greater purpose in supporting the goals of other Legacy initiatives. This facility will be developed with the flexibility for use as a NFL Youth Education Town (YET) Center. The NFL leaves a legacy to youth and education in a host community by supporting the development of a YET Center in an economically disadvantaged area. Since the Near Eastside doesn’t have any large youth serving recreational, sports and youth development facilities, it will provide the opportunity for a wide variety of activities including health, fitness, wellness, cultural, educational, and family strengthening programs that will benefit youth and families from the entire Near Eastside neighborhood for years to come.

This group also has a goal of facilitating a unique arrangement that divides use of the facility between an Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis Public Schools and community youth serving agencies that serve the neighborhoods of the Near Eastside. Near Eastside Education and Wellness Center/Youth Education Town committee co-chairs include:

  • Susan Williams – President, Indiana Sports Corporation; former Executive Director of Indiana State Office Building Commission
  • Joe Matthews – Executive Director, Jobs Partnership of Greater Indianapolis; founding President & CEO, Indiana OIC Council
